Who can be a guarantor?

Who can be a guarantor?

Pete Mugleston

To find out exactly what your eligible for and at what rates please or give us a call on 0800 304 7880.

Usually the guarantor on a mortgage is required to have some form of family tie. This is because the lender has a responsibility to ensure the person offering the guarantee is doing so legitimately, so only allowing relatives to be guarantors helps avoid fraudulent applications and complications later down the line.

  • Parents, Adoptive parents, Step parents
  • Grandparents
  • Brothers & sisters
  • Aunts & uncles
  • Any other close blood relative

For more about guarantors read this article.  Keep in mind they aren’t always limited to blood relatives however, and occasionally if there’s a good explanation, some lenders may consider a non-blood relative as a guarantor (Step/foster parents etc).
